Wolverhampton and Harborne-based luxury jewellery and watch retailer Rudell the Jewellers has opened its third showroom in the heart of Birmingham City Centre.
Rudells was founded in Wolverhampton in the 1930’s and subsequently opened their Harborne showroom in the 1980’s. They are home to iconic jewellery and watch brands, including Patek Philippe.
What Was the Challenge?
As a long-standing client, Rudells approached Q2Q over a year ago regarding the opening of a new store, scheduled for November 2024. The preparations began in June 2024, with Q2Q assisting Rudells in laying the groundwork.
A site visit was undertaken when the store was a just a shell, to help plan data points, data cabinet location, wireless access point locations, and advice on setting up internet lines, hardware, and other essential infrastructure.
The process involved numerous meetings, site visits, and hands-on support to ensure the store was ready for its grand opening. While there were several challenges along the way (as often happens in the world of IT), the store officially opened on November 11, 2024, with the mayor of Birmingham officiating the event!
What Did Q2Q Do to help?
Q2Q took a project management approach to oversee the entire IT setup process, including:
- Coordinating the installation of internet lines and hardware.
- Managing access for third-party services like alarms and CCTV, ensuring they work.
- Installing cabinet equipment and configuring Wi-Fi.
- Ensuring all IT systems were operational in time for the opening.
What Effect Did It Have for the Client?
Q2Q were able to manage and plan the IT elements of this project, allowing the team at Rudells to do what they do best, and successfully launch a stunning new store on Birmingham’s bustling high street, meeting their planned opening date without compromising on functionality or customer experience.
This project was a journey from an empty shell to a fully functional, beautifully designed store. It was a challenging but rewarding journey, with Harrison witnessing the transformation firsthand on his visits.
One particularly tricky issue was the delay in installing the leased line, caused by various third-party factors, meaning that it wouldn’t be ready at the time of the store opening. With time running short, Q2Q came up with a creative idea and implemented a temporary 5G solution through some clever IT wizardry, enabling Rudells to operate seamlessly and stay on track with their cloud-based systems.
